Dental Healthcare at The Park Practice, Glasgow

Regular dental checkups will ensure that any problems with your gums and teeth are identified quickly. On a basic dental level, brushing and flossing work best. Always brush your teeth twice a day and if possible floss after meals.

If you need any further information, ask our dentists and dental hygienist for advice.

Dental Hygienist, Glasgow

A women smiling after visiting a dental hygienist GlasgowAt The Park Practice, we have a fantastic healthcare service and our hygienist is experienced in dealing with any gum health issues.

This can vary from patients who want to prevent plaque build-up and reduce gum inflammation to people who present with far more complex periodontal health challenges.
We advise that you should visit us for regular cleaning and checkups twice a year but people at greater risk of oral diseases should have dental checkups more often.

Hygienists are trained to execute preventative measures; this means they’ll spot any issues that could develop and address them early so you won’t need serious oral surgery.

Tobacco and alcohol use, gum disease and poor oral hygiene may mean that you are at greater risk of poor dental health. People with diabetes and pregnant women may also need more regular dental checkups.

What does a dental hygienist do?

Glasgow Dental Care, Women in dental chairA dental hygienist will thoroughly and professionally clean your teeth. This means they’ll remove plaque and tartar from your mouth, including under your gum line - this treatment is commonly known as a scale and polish.

They can also provide other services such as dental x-rays, which helps to diagnose problems, applying fissure sealants, and applying fluoride solutions. They are not cosmetic dentists, and can’t do things like dental implants or teeth whitening, but are concerned with improving your overall oral health.

Daily Dental Care

Follow a proper daily dental care plan and your teeth will benefit from improved dental health. Although brushing your teeth twice a day should help prevent tooth decay, it is not the full answer. Take care of your teeth from a young age, on a daily basis, and you’ll hold onto them for longer. Otherwise, you could start to lose your teeth by middle age and develop recurring gum disease.

Simple Dental Care Advice

Morning

  • Rinse your mouth with water every morning when you get up. This will wash away that left-over sleep taste.
  • Give your mouth a quick check to make sure your gums are healthy.
  • Brush your teeth with a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Rub in a circular fashion and along the gum line. Do not brush too vigorously.

Afternoon

  • Use a mouthwash to help freshen your breath and wash away any residual debris. Try drinking water or rinsing your mouth with water after meals to help cleanse your mouth.
  • Avoid sugary drinks and snacks.

Evening

  • Repeat your morning brushing technique at the end of the day. Brush your tongue briefly as well.
  • If you are really good, remember to floss!
  • Rinse and head off to bed.
